A 'Grapple' Problem 03.11.17
DASP staff had training at the beginning of this week which included the use of a Grapple problem with children. A 'grapple' problem is one which the children will find challenging and which can be used to introduce a new topic. I tried this idea with Sharks this week to begin our new Maths topic of subtraction. Children tried the problem on their own, using whatever method they wished, then discussed what they had done with their partner. It was a great session, the children really enjoyed it and are ready to begin learning subtraction methods this week.
