Week 1 - Topic

It's been lovely to have some sunshine this week as we return to school after the Easter break.

We have begun learning about our new topic - Oceans - and this will be our topic throughout the term. Our book this week has been Big Blue Whale which is a great introduction to this amazing animal and the children have written some statement sentences about them. We have also written some questions about things we would like to find out about the oceans and had a go at describing an underwater picture using expanded noun phrases.

In art the children have started a painting of the oceans and in science we are going to be learning about plants and what they need to grow. An experiment has begun in the classroom to see which conditions are needed so we'll see how that progresses over the next few weeks! Our vegetable beds are now planted with carrots, beans and strawberries so hopefully we will have a crop by  the end of term.

We have begun teaching year 1s phonics using the Little Wandle programme which is going well. But just a reminder that the children will not be having spellings to bring home to learn any more. Year 2s will continue to have spellings set on Google Classrooms.
