Week 3

In maths this week with  Mrs Austin the year 3s are focusing on equal groups and 4 x tables and year 4s are learning what happens when we x by 1 and 0.This is in addition to the year 4’s having their TT Rockstars times table tests, this week we focused on the 3, 4 and 5 times tables. With Miss Darby we are still learning about fractions, this week we looked at whole fractions.

Literacy this week saw us continue to read The Inventions of Hugo Cabret. We had a go at acting out a scene from the book when Hugo tried to steal something from the toy shop. Our focus was to think about the dialogue that would be said between the two characters and we then wrote this down remembering the rules about using speech marks.

In our topic this week, we have been learning about Leonardo da Vinci and his inventions. We had a go at making a parachute out of paper for our toy soldiers.

On Wednesday and Friday we had PE with Miss Moore, we continued with country dancing and also gymnastics where we got to use the climbing frame in the hall.

During art this week with Miss Darby we have been drawing our partners eyes using our sketching techniques which we have learned over the  past few weeks.

We had a very exciting morning on Thursday when seven girls from Thomas Hardye School came in. They read an extract of George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl, where George finds all the ingredients to make his medicine. We then had a go at writing our own ideas of what we would put into our marvelous medicine. My favourite part was when we did an experiment.  We put baking soda into a cup of water and blue food colouring, it changed the colour from dark blue into light blue. When vinegar was added to the blue water, the colour changed to pink, it was very exciting!
