Week 5 - The Space Dome

The highlight of our week was the visit of the Space Odyssey space dome led by Simon. The children had 1 1/4 hours inside the dome learning more about space, space travel and the planets. We started off on an adventure with Astronaut George to other planets in our solar system to see if we could live on them before learning about the first moon landings and trips into space. We ended our session by looking at star constellations in the night sky. Apparently you can get an app on your phone to help you find and name star constellations and I'm definitely going to look into it!

During literacy the children have been writing a non chronological report on a planet of their choice and a display of their diary of an astronaut work is now in the library. Year 2s have been learning about tally charts and pictograms in maths whilst Year 1s have been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the rockets the children made on Tuesday after the Space Dome visit, the children had great fun making them.
