Week 1

Happy New Year!

Welcome back to the start of our spring term.

Our new topic is The Night sky and during this half of term we will be learning about planets, space, nocturnal animals, habitats and much more. The children already seemed enthused by the topic and I am amazed at some of thier prior knowledge. We have had lots of books bought in to share and we have also started reading Jill Tomlinsons story The owl who was afraid of the dark. Despite the rain during outdoor learning on Monday, we also had a bug hunt and looked at micro habitats.

In maths this week year 1 have been focusing on place value while year 2 have been focusing on addition. In literacy we shared the story of Whatever Next! and wrote postcards home while in history we learnt about Neil Armstrong and watched some footage of the first moon landing.

During our art we have talked about Van Goghs painting Starry Night and we will be creating our own starry nights over the next few weeks. We will also be making papier mache planets. Thank you to everyone who has bought in newspaper. We now have enough.

We have also started our coding lessons during computing which the children are enjoying.

Next week the children will be taught by Mrs Thomson on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday as I am on a course.

Enjoy the weekend and if the nights are clear, have a look out at the stars and see if you can find the North Star, or Orions belt!
