week 10

This week the Seahorse class have continued to learn about Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights. We have talked about the importance of light, new beginnings, special food to share, presents, fireworks, Rangoli patterns and the story of Rama and Sita. We went out into the yard to draw our own bright, colourful Rangoli patterns with chalk and also decorated their Diva's with bright colourful paint, glitter and sequins.

Outdoor learning continues and this week the chidren learnt how to build shelters and dens using tarpaulin, pegs, sticks and rope, and had the opportunity to play and explore inside their dens. The children really enjoyed scooping up the autumnal leaves and throwing them up into the air. Please make sure that your child has enough warm and waterproof clothes every Thursday, for their outdoor learning experiences.

We are now introducing the children to the phase three letters, sounds and tricky words. The children's phonics books will come home daily for you to practise each sound and complete a short recognition and letter formation activity with your child. Tricky word bookmarks will follow shortly. Please practise these words with the children, they are 'being tricky' because they cannot be sounded out and we have to recognise the whole word by sight. Thank you for your continued support with these activities.

On Friday the children were all very excited to be wearing their spots and stripes to support Children in Need. We talked about why we were raising money for children that are less fortunate in our Praise assembly and completed lots of Pudsey colouring activities.
