Week 7
What a lovely way to finish the end of our first half term of the year, with a visit from Liza and Gerald the giraffe from the Life Education Van. The children really enjoyed listening and learning about our feelings and the different parts of the body, the importance of a healthy diet and exercise. They all enthusiastically participated in the activities and gave some fantastic answers in response to Liza's questions!
In phonics we have just come to the end of phase 2 letters & sounds, please do practise all of these sounds and the tricky words over the holiday, as we will be moving on to phase 3 on our return in November.
Our focus story has been 'What Do People Do All Day' and the children have been thinking about and recording the events of their day, from when they wake up in the morning, until they go to bed in the evening, what a busy day they have! They have illustrated and labelled their day, listening carefully to the sounds in words and using their phonic knowledge.
In maths we have been developing our estimating skills by having a 'good guess' at how many objects or pictures of the characters from our focus book we can see. The children shared their guesses, we then counted to check our answers and then had a go at writing the digits.
The children have been busy completing their family trees this week. They have created trees by printing their forearms and fingers to form the tree and branches, then used their fingers for the autumnal leaves falling from the tree. They then looked at their family photographs and spoke about each of member of their family, then placed them on their trees. These will be hung in the classroom until the end of the school year.
