Week 9
The Seahorse class have had a busy start to the new half term, with lots of activities and learning based upon our 'Celebrations' topic. We celebrated Sidney the Seahorses birthday, making bunting, birthday cards and decorating cakes. We threw him a birthday party where we played party games and sang "Happy Birthday" to him, helping him to blow the candles out on his cake.
We talked about bonfire and fireworks night, learning how to stay safe and to always follow the safety code. We made lots of firework pictures using paint, glitter and chalk. We have also made rocket fireworks by practising our patterning on the rocket, sticking flames to the bottom and hanging them up in the classroom. We really enjoyed making edible fireworks with breadsticks, melted chocolate and sprinkles and then eating them at snack time!
We attended the whole school Taise service to commemorate Remembrance Day, listening to the stories of the service men and women who had served their countires and lost their lives during wars past and present. We joined in with the songs, praise, learnt about why the poppy is used as the symbol for Remembrance and had a minute silence to reflect upon what we learnt about Remembrance Day and think about all of the people who fought during the wars.
We have started learning about Diwali (the Hindu festival of light) and began to make our Diva's from clay. We will be painting them and decorating them with bright colours and sequins.
