Week 8

We have been writing poetry in Beech Class this week. We began by reading Evidence of Dragons by Pie Corbett. Using the information in the text, we collated ideas about what the tell-tale signs of a dragon's presence would be. Then, we noted our ideas about what a Dragon Tracker must be like. This gave us a foundation to write some opening sentences and create ideas for our poems. A best copy of our poems will be written up next week.

Year 1 also looked at sequencing events of stories. Their task was to create a six-stage story of their day, then cut out the stages they had drawn and mix them up. Their partner then had to retell the story with the order mixed up and discuss why stories are sequenced and structured. We will soon be planning and writing our own stories.

You will have noticed the children came home this week with instructions for a game called Dreidel. In RE, we learned about this game which is normally played during the Jewish holiday of Chanukah. The instructions and Dreidels were sent home so children could have a go with their families if they wished to.

Finally, we have a picture of some butterflies the children created using sticks, moss and fallen leaves from outside.

Photographs from these events conclude our blog this week.

Have a good weekend!
