Week 4
This week's traditional tale has been Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have loved joining in with the Giant's 'Fee Fi Fo Fum' and they have all written great descriptions of either the Giant or Jack.
In maths we have been doing some estimating and the adding together of two groups to make a total. The children have used magic beans, bears, numicon and number lines to help them.
Today we started our junk modeling project and spent most of the morning creating houses and castles for our chosen characters to live in. We have The Three Bears cottge, Jacks house, the Giants castle and even houses for the Big Bad Wolf. The children worked independently choosing their resources, working out how to join the materials and being very inventive in their designs. Next week we will paint them ready to bring home. The children have also finished decorating their Cinderella slippers and they look beautiful. We may have some future shoe designers in our midst!
We also planted iris bulbs today and your child will have bought a pot home with them containing the bulb they planted. These can be kept indoors or out. They will grow quicker indoors. They will need to be kept moist but hopefully will start to grow and flower in the next couple of months. I'd love to see photos of them flowering if you could send pictures into school.
Next Tuesday is our trip to Thorncombe Woods. I'm not sure what the weather holds in store for us so please remember every child needs to come in wearing old trousers but a school shirt and sweatshirt. Waterproof coat and trousers if possible and wellie boots. We are all looking forward to it.
