Week 8 - Shrove Tuesday and World Book Day

Welcome back after half term. It has been an extremely busy week with Shrove Tuesday and World Book Day.

To celebrate Shrove Tuesday and introduce our new topic Traditional Tales, the children spent the morning taking part in a selection of activities. They made and cooked and ate pancakes, wrote the recipe, read the story of The Runaway Pancake and sequenced it in their own pictures and spent time talking about what they know about traditional tales. We discussed stories, settings, characters, good and evil, and touched on language. The children were all enthusiastic and engaged with this and I'm really looking forward to exploring more tales with them over the coming weeks.

On World Book Day the children looked amazing and I was so pleased to see all the books they bought with them to share throughout the day. Sadly we didn't have time to read them all but we stopped every hour, on the hour no matter what we were doing to have a story. Room on the Broom was even acted out as I read the story! It is always such a joy to see how keen the children are on books and how excited they are to share them with their friends. Thank you for creating so many fabulous costumes too.
