Week 3
This week we began our Food & Farming topic. We initially created a mind map together, to find out what the children already know & what they would like to learn about over the rest of this half term. They have enjoyed exploring the new role play area which is our Winterbourne Farm Shop, writing their shopping lists, writing receipts for the goods that they buy, weighing out the fruit & vegetables on the scales, putting their shopping in the shopping basket & taking it to the till to be bagged & paid for.
Our weekly story has been The Little Red Hen. The children have listened really carefully to the story, learning the repeated refrains, the characters & events throughout the story. We decided to make some bread like the main character in the story & the children eagerly weighed & mix the ingredients, then kneading, proving & rolling their dough into their chosen roll shape. The children said that it was "yummy" and that they had shared it with their families.
After this the children were asked to recall the all of the ingredients that were needed to make the bread dough & draw pictures of each item. They then practised listening really carefully to the sounds at the beginning of each word & recorded the grapheme.
